Bodies raise posers on commitment of AR

Manipur Keithel Phambi Apunba Lup (MAK-PAL) has asked the government of Manipur to clarify on the earlier announcement for withdrawal of the Assam Rifles from the state and declare its stand regarding the people's persistent demand to replace the said para-military force with impartial central forces.
Addressing media persons at Manipur Press Club, here, on Wednesday, MAKPAL president O Bilashini said that the present government's repeated claims of normalcy returning in the state is far from the truth while pointing out that there would be peace and normalcy only when those taking shelter in relief camps across the state return to their respective homes.
While urging the government to listen to voice of public, O Bilashini said that it would be wrong on the part of the government to consider the voice for removal of Assam Rifles from Manipur and bringing peace as mere outcries of handful of mothers.
She also cautioned that the issue may go but of hand in case the government undermines sentiment and demand of the people.
According to the Lup president, as the AR units brought in or already deployed to contain the ongoing violence have failed to perform their task they merit replacement with central forces having firm resolve to safeguard the people and their properties, she maintained and condemned the state inability of the state government to launch effective crackdown on armed Kukis who generally attack Meetei villages in areas having substantial presence of Assam Rifles.
She also insisted that village volunteers defending fringe villages from attacks by Kuki narco-terrorists should not be arrested.
Poirei Eta Meira Paibi Apunba Lup also emphasised the need to make the global fraternity aware that come central forces, including the Assam Rifles, at the behest of the government of India, has been aiding the Kukis to wipe out the Meetei community.
Addressing media persons at Manipur Press Club, here, on Tuesday, Lup general secretary Kshetrimayum Nganbi contended that the central forces are supporting armed Kukis as part of the hidden agenda to annihilate the Meetei community along with alleging that the government of India is intentionally prolonging the conflict, which could otherwise be resolved within a week.
She also exhorted all concerned to contribute their mite in protecting the Meetei community from attacks by armed Kuki narco-terrorists and to expose alleged nexus between the Assam Rifles and the Kukis.
She said that central forces should be sidelined to prevent complete decimation of the Meeteis, and called for the removal of the Assam Rifles from the state.
