Imphal, November 20 2024: Noted choreographer of Manipuri dance and scholar 'Guru' Rajkumar Singhajit Singh passed away on Tuesday at his New Delhi residence due to an illness.

He was 92.Born on November 3, 1932, Singhajit became head of Manipuri dance section of Triveni Kala Sangam, New Delhi from 1954 .

In 1962, Singhajit became director of Triveni Kala Sangam as principal dancer and opened 'Triveni Ballet' .

Later, Singhajit established 'Manipuri Nirtyaashram' in 1998 and imparted Manipuri dance to scores of students and produced many students at national and international levels.

Singhajit was conferred with many notable awards including the Tagore award for cultural harmony, Sangeet Natak Akademi award, Sangeet Natak Akademi fellowship, Kalidas Shanman, Manipur State Kala Akademi fellowship, Padmashri and Sahitya Kala Parishad award.
