Tributes paid to Chongtham Mia, Paona Brajabashi

The 133rd Khongjom War Memorial Day was organised by Major Chongtham Mia Memorial Trust, Agartala at Major Chongtham Mia Memorial complex, Narayan Khamar in Tripura, on Thursday.
According to the Trust, those gathered at the commemorative event offered floral tributes to the statue of Major Chingtham Mia, who led the fight against the British soldiers during the Khongjom War, and observed two minutes' silence in honour of all those sacrificed their lives for the sake of the motherland.
The function was attended by Trust president Gurumayum Nitai Sharma and social activist Laishram Chandrakumar as president and chief guest respectively.
In his address social activist N Pranoy Roy, stated that Khongjom War stands as evidence to the existence of Manipur as an independent kingdom.
Despite its relatively small size, Manipur serves as a testament to the bravery and deep-rooted affection our ancestors had for their homeland.
Despite facing defeat in the war, it demonstrated to the entire world that Manipuris possess indomitable sacrificial spirit in case of any threat to the motherland.
Meanwhile, Arapti Maning Leikai Youth Development Association also observed the 133rd death anniversary of Paona Brajabashi at Arapti Maning Leikai Yumkhaibam Hiden in collaboration with Arapti Maning Leikai Youth Development Association and Paona Mongpham Protection and Celebration Committee.
