Imphal, January 27 2025: Denouncing the December 14, 2024 firing incident near Salungpham high school in Thoubal district wherein a young village volunteer was killed and six others arrested by police commandos, residents of Kongba Makha Nandeibam Leikai staged sit in protest on Monday.

During the protest held at Lainingthou Muriba Shanglen, protestors held placards and chanted slogans like 'We condemn killing of village volunteer', 'Do not arrest village volunteers', 'Transfer SP Thoubal to either Kangpokpi or Churachandpur immedi ately' .

'Suspend police commandos involved in killing village volunteer' and 'Repeal AFSPA from Manipur' .

Lainingthou Muriba Nupi Lup president Thounaojam Bijenmala told media per sons on the sidelines of the sit-in that the direct attack on Meetei community by Chin Kuki narco terrorists to break apart Manipur in pursuit of their separate administration/Union Territory demand is entering two years.

However, there has been no action from both the state and central governments to resolve the conflict or no sign of ending the violence.

As the government could not protect lives and properties of the people amid the onslaught by Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists against the Meetei people, villagers volunteered to defend their land and protect the people.

Accordingly, they became village volunteers but the government is now killing and arresting them, she bemoaned and questioned as to what would have been the condition of the people if no village volunteer had come out.

She then dared Manipur police commandos to exhibit their courage against the Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists rather than hounding the village volunteers.

Sendra Leikai Ema Meira Paibi Lup, Bishnupur district also staged a similar sit-in protest against the Salungpham firing incident on Monday near Thanga Sendra Sports House.
