State to host NE level World Indigenous People's Day

Under the aegis of Northeast Indigenous Peoples' Forum, Indigenous Peoples Forum Manipur (IPFM) would observe the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples for entire northeast at City Convention Centre, Palace Compound on August 9, informed IPFM president Ashang Kasar.
In a press meet held at Hotel Imphal on Sunday, Ashang informed that the day would be observed on the theme "Indigenous Peoples' Right to Self Determination: A Pathway for Food Security and Sovereignty" .
He rued that Manipur, a land of many indigenes is in chaos due to the two-year long conflict.
As such, the day is being observed to show solidarity to the indigenous populace of the state and seek safeguards for the indigenes, he added.
Informing that MLAs from seven states including the titular king of Tripura would be attending the event for discussion on issues plaguing Manipur, how the indigenous communities could come together and ensure their rights are uphold, he urged all concerned not to impose any bandh or blockade on the day of the observance to be attended by 1000 delegates.
