LDA employees stage sit-in

Employees of Loktak Development Authority (LDA) on Wednesday staged a sit-in protest in front of their office gate at Toupokpi, Bishnupur, district raising various demands.
Speaking on the sidelines, LDA Workers and Employees' Union secretary P Shyamkumar informed that the sit-in will continue till July 26 after which cease work strike would be launched from July 29 in case the government fails to address their demand by July 26.The demands include 'equal pay, equal work', pension and retirement benefits for LDA employees, frame separate rules and regulations for LDA, and promotion of non-technical employees on seniority basis among others.
He pointed out that as per a notification issued by the Finance Department on September 18, 2023, the deputy secretary of Secretariat Forest and Environment and Climate Change directed the LDA project director for recommending the pension matter to the LDA.
The Union pushed the LDA management to translate the same into action but as no action was taken up, the Union held a meeting on May 10 and adopted various resolutions.
The adopted resolutions were made aware in writing to the chairman and project director of LDA, the government and the authority concerned.
However, no action was taken up.
As such, the Union launched the sit-in protest on Wednesday and would cease work from July 29 until their demands are honoured, Shyamkumar cautioned.
