Rev Puni Mao celebrates 50 years of national service

Reverend A Puni Mao, member of the Collective Leadership of NSCN/GPRN, celebrated his 50 years of Naga national service at Okhro Ikhro ground, Mao gate on Wednesday under the theme 'Rededicating towards nation building with thanksgiving'.
The event organised under the aegis of Mao Council was hosted by Chakre Chovow.
Rev A Puni was bom in 1944 and belongs to the Mao tribe.
He passed matriculation from Mao-Maram higher secondary school and studied theology at Berean Baptist Theological college and associated with Operation Mobilization (OM), an international Christian organization focused on mobilizing the youth.
He returned to his native land and joined the Naga revolutionary movement and ordained as a Reverend in 1976 .
In his 50 years of service, Rev A Puni served at various capacities, including head chaplain of the Naga Army, two-time regional chairman of Shepouma-ramth, three-time Kilo Kilonser, two-time convener of the Steering Committee, national caretaker during emergency, vice president of the Council of Nagalim Churches and later convenor of the National Security Council.
He was inducted as a member of the Collective Leadership in June, 2013.Rev Puni and his team baptised around 50,000 individuals in Myanmar-occupied Nagalim and established over 200 churches.
He also travelled to many Asian and European countries for political mobilisation and political talks.
He received the highest award of the Naga nation, the President's Award in 1994 for his selfless and exemplary contribution to the Naga cause.
The event was also attended by ex-MP Dr S Lorho Pfoze and deputy Ato Kilonser, NSCN/ GPRN, Gen (Retd) VS Atem.
