An exclusive theatre workshop for women artistes which would go on till August 2 has begun from today at the Artistes' Workshop cum Dormitory, Palace Compound here.
In all 15 young women artistes are participating in the workshop being organised jointly by Dept of Art and Culture, Govt of Manipur and North East Zone Cultural Centre, Dimapur.
The inaugural function of the theatre workshop was attended by noted theatre personality and Sahitya Natak Akademi awardee H Sabitri Devi as chief guest and former president of Manipuri Sahitya Parishad B Jayentakumar Sharma as functional president.
Being organised under the theme of 'Women in turmoil', a theatre production would be finalised at the end of the workshop.
Y Rajendra would be the director of both the workshop and the production while the script of the production would be penned by noted theatre critic and columnist of The Sangai Express (Manipuri edition) Budha Chingtham.
The title of the play is said to be 'The dance of statue'.
Delivering the key note address, Director of Art and Culture, Govt of Manipur Kh Sorojini explained that the production would deal with various aspects of the problems being faced by Manipuri women.
