At least 30 curfew violators including eight women were pulled up after they confronted the police at Khomidok area in Imphal East today morning.
A team of Imphal East police personnel who had gone to Khomidok area to enforce the Covid induced curfew came under attack from some miscreants who hurled stones and projectiles.
The miscreants started pelting stones after the police allegedly pulled up Covid violators from Khomidok area under Imphal East district this morning One police personnel was injured in the stone pelting.
The police also fired tear gas shells in response.
According to police, a team of Heingang police and 16 commando units under the aegis of Additional SP (Ops) Imphal East Mayengbam Roni went to the area to pick up one person of the area who pelted stones at the police on duty on July 21 last.
Apart from the person accused of pelting stones, the police team also pulled up 34 other curfew violators, the police said and added that a large number of people from Khomidok pelted stones at them out of the blue.
Saying that the police also fired tear gas shells to disperse them, the police continued that one of its commando personnel was hit by a stone.
One Gypysy of the police was also damaged in the process.
On the other hand, it is reported that the 30 curfew violators were produced before CJM Imphal East and have been remanded to 7 days.
Two of the 8 women were later released on bail.
