Kakching, August 27 2024:
Fishery Department officials, Hiyanglam AC administrative committee and social worker Dr Elangbam Amitkumar on Tuesday inspected fish farms affected by the recent flood in Hiyanglam assembly constituency.
The team led by Thoubal District Fishery Office farm demonstrator Moirangthem Noren assessed condition of the flood-hit farms in Hiyanglam, Langmeidong, Thongjao, Komnao, Tokpachajing, Arong, Nongmaikhong, Laphupat Tera, Sekmaijin and Khoidum area under Hiyanglam AC.
The team noted substantial financial loss suffered by the fishers due to overflowing of water from their farms and absence of 'hapa' fishing nets leading to escape of fish from their farms.
Later, the team visited flood relief camps set up at Komnao and Khoidum and provided essential items to camp residents.
Speaking in this regard, Lamyanba Enterprise proprietor and social worker Dr Elangbam Amitkumar informed that agriculture and fish farming are the main source of income for many families under Hiyanglam AC and lamented that the frequent flooding in the state has affected livelihood of many in the constituency.
While assuring all possible help to the affected people by consulting with the government authorities, he urged the fishing folks to submit requisite documents to the administrative committee.
