Imphal, July 24 2024:
With Delhi Meitei Coordinating Committee (DMCC) all set to organise a protest demonstration at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on July 28 over the 14-month long conflict in Manipur, various women groups have announced their decision of supporting the DMCC by staging protests in the state the same day.
In line with the planned protest at Jantar Mantar, DMCC along with Imagi Meira, AMKIL and Khwairamband Keithel Joint Coordinating Committee for Peace will stage protest at Hao ground, Pishum Chingamathak.
Announcing this to the media at Manipur Press Club, here, on Wednesday, Khwairamband Keithel Joint Coordinating Committee for Peace co-convener Huirem Binodini lamented that there is no end to the war being waged against the Meetei community by Kuki despite efforts to restore peace and normalcy in the state.
People are wondering as to when the war will end and amidst this situation DMCC is planning to stage protest demonstration on July 28 in New Delhi and so a similar protest will be held in Imphal on the same day, she said and appealed to women's groups, CSOs and all sections of people to join the protest to be held from 1 pm to 3 pm.
According to Binodini, several slogans will be raised during the protest in New Delhi as well as in Imphal.
The slogans include 'Destruction of Kuki bunkers by Centre and state government', 'Why Central government is siding with Kuki Narco-Terrorists', 'How long will displaced people live in relief camps' and 'When will displaced people return to their respective homes'.
Amidst the unrest situation, the Union Budget did not mention anything about Manipur and this has compelled people of the state to think if they are not part of India, Binodini added.
