NWU, SDWA members visit Churachandpur

Members of the Naga Women's Union (NWU) and Senapati District Women Association (SDWA) visited Churachandpur district and met leaders of several women organizations in the district on September 8. During the visit the representatives of NWU and SDWA interacted with leaders of Churachandpur Joint Women Organization (CJWO), Hmar Women Association (HWA), Kuki Women Union (KWU), Zomi Mothers Association (ZMA) and Mizo Peoples Convention Women's Wing (MPCWW) and extended solidarity to them and expressed concern about the tense situation in the district.
In statement, NWU president LM Tabitha said Naga women expressed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and paid homage to the nine martyrs who laid down their lives in defense and protection of land and rights of the tribal indigenous peoples.
In time of conflict of this nature it is the women who are affected the most and also play a crucial role in maintaining peace and upholding the rights and dignity of the people, she said.
Tabita said land is central to the identity and life of the tribal indigenous peoples.
The Naga women along with their unit will continue to maintain the symbiosis of land and life of the tribals.
