State Govt lodges FIR against Samarjit, Y Biren

Imphal, October 30 2019: An FIR has been lodged against former Chairman of SALAI Holdings Pvt Ltd, Narengbam Samarjit and one Yambem Biren, for waging war against the State.

The FIR was filed following the news (and video) which went viral on social media in which Samarjit and Biren, supposedly taking part in a press conference in London on behalf of titular king Leishemba Sanajaoba, announced the independence of Manipur from India and the formation of a Manipur State Council.

Speaking to media persons at the CM Bungalow at Babupara today, Chief Minister N Biren Singh said that the news/video which went viral on social media is a very shocking turn of events, and the State Government is very much concerned with the statement made by Samarjit and Y Biren.

As such, an FIR has been lodged against the two individuals at Imphal West PS, he said and added that various sections of the IPC have been included in the FIR for waging war against the State.

He said that as Samarjit and Yambem Biren committed their act while staying in a foreign land, the State Government has tasked the Special Crime Branch for taking up necessary actions.

The Special Crime Branch will conduct necessary investigations into all processes and works involving Samarjit within a week and necessary legal actions will be contemplated, the CM said, informing the State Home Department has proposed to hand over the findings of the Special Crime Branch to the NIA.

If the need arises, necessary approval of the Cabinet will also be taken, he said.

Replying to a query regarding steps to control the private banks and to prevent fraud against the people, Chief Minister Biren said that the State Government will take up steps to look into the numerous private banks present in the State and necessary legal actions will be taken up against those found cheating the people.

Law Minister L Jayantakumar and Chief Secretary, DGP, AGP and other officials were also present during the press meet.

It may be mentioned that Yambem Biren and Narengbam Samarjit announced before media that they were speaking on behalf of titular king Leishemba Sanajaoba, to formally launch Manipur State Council and also announced the separation of Manipur from India yesterday, in a move which has since gone viral on social media sites.
