Imphal, October 30 2019:
In light of the continuing talks between the Government of India and NSCN-IM to reach a final accord on the Naga issue by tomorrow, COCOMI (Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity) has strengthened its stand and appealed the people to stay vigilant and carry out mass protests across the State tomorrow.
COCOMI, in a press statement issued by its assistant coordinator Jitendra Ningomba, urged people across the State to endorse its call to cease work and come out on the streets for alert meetings and rallies demonstrating collective stand and aspiration.
Expressing apprehension that the expecting final accord may contain provisions that may seriously harm the State's integrity and interests, COCOMI said that all sections of people should come out to show unity and strength against the looming threats.
It urged Meira Paibis and local organisations to lead the alert meetings and rallies at their respective areas.
Urging all to raise slogans to save State's integrity and interests, COCOMI advised that people must avoid unwanted slogans which may hurt any particular community.
The collective stand and the slogans should be directed against the eminent threats and not against any particular community.
Tomorrow's mass protests should reflect collective stand and unity of all communities, COCOMI said.
The mass movement/shutdown tomorrow will begin from 4 am and continue till 12 am.
It will not affect emergency services and media, COCOMI added.
COCOMI also lashed out at the State Government for its vague stand and failure to hold Special Session of the State Assembly regarding the matter.
The final solution for peace should not affect or hurt the State.
It must not be a reason for division among people, COCOMI said.
Meanwhile, State Communist Party of India (Marxist) has extended support to COCOMI's shutdown tomorrow.
The decision to endorse the shutdown was taken during a meeting of the Manipur State Secretariat of CPI (M) today morning, said a statement of its secretary Kshetrimayum Santa.
CPI(M) also appealed people irrespective of their caste, creed and religion to actively participate in the movement.
