Imphal, January 27 2025: Police cracked down on sit-in protest demonstrations boycotting Republic Day across Imphal East district yesterday.

The sit-ins boycotting Republic Day celebration were held denouncing the Government of India's failure to end the Manipur violence and restore normalcy and peace in the State.

As womenfolk were holding sit-in protests at different locations, police crack down on them and disrupted the demonstrations.

Sit-in demonstrations were held at Pungdongbam, Yorbung, Lamlai Keithel, Shabungkhok, Waiton, Yumnam Patlou, Yumnam Khunou, Uyumpok, Seijang and Kongba Keithel in Imphal East.

Women who took part in the protests said, "There is no meaning in celebrating the Republic Day when the Government of India can't end the Manipur conflict that has claimed many lives and displaced thousands from their homes" .

"Many innocent men, women and children have lost their lives.

Kuki militants have killed civilians including unarmed women and children.

Republic Day holds no significance to people who are displaced and whose family members have been killed," said a woman protester.

"Amid the conflict, even the army camps are not safe," asserted a protester, adding Laishram Kamal-babu, who disappeared inside the Leimakhong Army camp, has not been traced and found.

The missing person must be traced and found.

The Government of India must crackdown on Kuki militants, end the conflict and allow displaced people to return to their homes.

Only then, people will celebrate Republic Day, she added.
