An emergency meeting on peace held at Tamenglong district headquarters on April 21 with president of Zeliangrong Union (Assam, Manipur and Nagaland) James Rangshung in the chair has unanimously endorsed the Peace Forum (Chaguat Phom) constituted by ZU (AMN) to mediate the warning UG factions and bring about lasting peace in the Zeliangrong region.
According to a statement issued by ZU (AMN) general secretary Dr S Xavier Pamei, after a prolong discussion, the meeting further resolved that the parties concerned should always intimate each other and not entertain other parties/persons without the consent of the Peace Forum to avoid any confusion and misunderstanding.
The meeting began with a prayer led by Rev N Palmei, ex-president of ZU (AMN).
Among those who spoke during the meeting, Dr S Xavier Pamei highlighted the purpose of the meeting and asked the gathering to think twice before taking any decision on this crucial issue.
Reverend N Palmei dwelled on the peace process instituted by the two factions operating within the Zeliangrong area at Longba (Nungba) in January 2008 and the follow-up action taken by the Peace Forum constituted by ZU (AMN).
Dichamang Pamei (Retd MCS officer), former DC of Tamenglong district sought the suggestions of the people on who the Peace Forum should deal with the situation.
Every Zeliangrong people must be responsible and be clear about their objectives and goals so as to bring about a long lasting peace in the region, he said.
The meeting also appealed to all the public leaders, social workers and contractors to extend their help to the noble cause in their personal capacity.
Meanwhile, the executive meeting of ZU South Zone held at Kalalong, Bishnupur today has endorsed and supported the peace process being initiated by the Peace Forum and urged to carry out the negotiation without any pre-condition in the interest of bringing about a long lasting peace in the region.
