Imphal, October 10 2023:
The eldest son-Thangal, second son-Hungpung and the youngest son-Meetei/Meitei are the three blood brothers, said Hungpung Zimik Shang tracing the historical and genealogical facts of Hungpung village.
Refuting an earlier claim of the research committee of Hungpung Hungshi Shangva which alleged that "there has never been any King's family and clan's name as Sun or Zimik in Hungpung history", the Hungpung Zimik Shang said the brotherhood of the Hungpung, Thangal and Meitei/Meetei and also the preexistence of the Zimik clan in Hungpung and Tangkhul villages have been proven with facts ''without any doubt or confusion" .

The genealogical blood brothers of Hungpung are- the Thangal (the eldest son), Hungpung (2nd son), and the Meetei/Meitei (the youngest son).
As per available documents, the brotherhood of Thangal and Hungpung was also reiterated and affirmed again in 1970, said a statement issued by Hungpung Zimik Shang's chairman AS Shaivi Zimik and secretary AS Kayangnam Zimik.
The claim that Khongdei/Khongrei is the eldest of the three brothers is a "fabricated and concocted story", it said.
Customarily and traditionally, the Tangkhuls are a patriarchal society.
The Tangkhul Zimik clan has existed since time immemorial and research on this has been published in 1994, it said.
The Hungpung Zimik Shang stressed and pointed out that on the 21st day of Sachipu--November 8 in 1992, AS Wungnaoyo Zimik, the headman of Hungpung village and Ninthourel Okendra (Maharaja) even made a declaration on the revival of Pareihanba in the presence of more than one hundred Tangkhul headmen and many others at Hungpung village.
The footprints of AS Wungnaoyo Zimik and Okendrajit were imprinted on a stone slab (monolith) which still stands at the courtyard of the Hungpung headman's residence as a proof of their brotherhood as well as Zimik as the surname/identity of the Hungpung headman who was the king/headman of the village for 51 years from 1954 to 2006 .
Moreover, a monolith was also erected on the occasion of Hungpung Ilong Kakom held on April 22, 2000 which has these words--"One of our mythologies tells us the emperor of Manipur, the chief of Hungpung and chief of Thangal are born of the same forefathers"--engraved on it as proof of their brotherhood, said Hungpung Zimik Shang.
It further clarified that "all the clan names in our society had been derived from colours and not object is a false narration" .
