Multipurpose cold storage unit inaugurated

Health and IPR Minister Dr S Ranjan Singh inaugurated a Multipurpose Cold Storage unit at Kangmong, Imphal West, today.
The storage has a capacity of 200 Metric Tons with four chambers.
Keishamthong AC MLA S Nishikanta Singh, Naoriya Pakhanglakpa AC MLA S Kebi Devi, Additional Chief Secretary P Vaiphei, Director of Horticulture and Soil Conservation Honeychara were also present.
Speaking as the chief guest, the Minister maintained that the State is known for producing a variety of crops and fruits.
Saying that the Government also organises different festivals regularly to encourage the farmers of the State, the Minister maintained that some of the notable agri-related festivals in Manipur are Orange Festival, Lemon Festival, Chilli Festival, Pineapple Festival etc.

However, the State doesn't have proper facilities to store farm produce, he said and added that more storage units need to be set up at different locations to prevent food wastage.
"Our land is gifted with rich soil which is suitable to grow varieties of crops,'' the Minister continued and appealed to the farmers to work harder so that there will be no shortage of foodgrains in Manipur.
S Kebi said that setting up of cold storage units at different locations is the need of the hour and it will be beneficial to both the farmers and consumers.
