everal thousand of mourners converged at the Bamon Kampu Mayai Leikai residence of Thangjam Manorama Devi to pay floral tribute at the portrait of the 32 year old woman on completion of one month of her demise today.
Mention may be made that Manorama was arrested by personnel of 17 Assam Rifles on the night of July 11 and the bullet riddled body was recovered at Ngariyan hillock at daybreak.
Several number of people from various places attired in mourning dress thronged the residence of the late woman to pay tribute to whose portrait was kept at the entrance gate of the house.
The floral tributes began from 10.30 am.
Members of Kabui Mothers Association arrived at the site holding banners denouncing the killing.
Even as mourners lined up to pay their respect to the departed woman, her elder brother Thangjam Madan lost consciousness and collapsed while trying to join the mourning.
The mourners also observed a two minute silence on the occasion while a human chain was formed and slogans were raised denouncing the Indian Army as well as demanding punitive action of the personnel involved in the killing of Manorama.
Addressing the gathering spokesperson of peoples� Action Committee against the Brutal Murder of Thangjam Manorama asserted that a concerted movement would be launched in collaboration with the 32 organisations and other social and voluntary bodies till justice prevails and Armed Forces Special Powers Act 1958 is withdrawn from Manipur.
Meanwhile, a solemn function to offer floral tribute to Manorama was also organised by Lainingthou Yangoiningthou meira Paibi Lup at its Porompat office premise from 9.10 am till 4.10 in the evening.
The custodial death of Th Manorama had sparked widespread protest and Manipur is today still on the boil with the people taking to the streets to demand the revocation of the AFSPA.
The Army authority had also conducted an inquiry into the matter.
