Two UG suspects killed

Two sus-pected underground militants were killed in an encounter with 44 Assam Rifles between Grihang and Bungpa Khunou villages under Chassad police station in Kamjong sub-division of Ukhrul district at around 11.30 pm on January 5.Police sources said that the incident happened when troops of 44 Assam Rifles under the aegis of 10 Sector IGAR (S) went to the area to conduct a search operation.
After the troops reached the area, an encounter that lasted for just a few minutes took place between the two sides.

On searching the area after the encounter, bodies of two unknown persons suspected to be the members of an underground group were found lying at the encounter site.
One AK-56 rifle with some live rounds were also recovered from the place, said the source.
The bodies were later deposited at RIMS morgue in Imphal by police for identification and post mortem examination.
Of the two slain persons, one is suspected to be one Sinam Aboynao (20) s/o Sinam Ramesh of Thangmeiband Sinam Leikai.
Identity of the other person is yet to be ascertained.
He was of around 25 years of age and he was wearing blue jeans pant, a black jogging jacket and a canvas shoe.
He sported a tattoo that read 'Shahit' on his left hand.
Meanwhile, a statement issued by PRO IGAR (S) said that based on a specific intelligence input regarding movement of underground cadres, troops of 44 Assam Rifles of 10 Sector under the aegis of Hqs IGAR (South) launched an operation between Grihang and Kamjong and neutralized two underground cadres of an unknown group on January 5 .
The AR troops saw three militants moving towards Kamjong, the statement said and added that the troops immediately asked them to stop.
However, they started running towards different directions by opening fire at the AR troops.
In the ensuing encounter, two underground militants were killed on the spot and the third cadre managed to escape taking advantage of darkness, the statement said.
One AK-56 rifle along with a magazine, twelve live rounds of 7.62 mm and five empty cases of 7.62 mm were recovered from the spot.
The bodies along with the recovered weapons have been handed over to Chassad police station, the statement added.
