4th round of Mission Indradhanush launched

After the
successful launch of a full
immunization programme of
children under the age of two
years as well as pregnant
women against preventable
diseases under Mission
Indradhanush, the fourth round
of the Second phase was
launched today for four
different districts of the State.
Mission Indradhanush
was launched by Ministry of
Health and Family Welfare
(MOHFW) Government of
India on December 25, 2014.
The objective of this mission
is to ensure that all children
under the age of two years as
well as pregnant women are
immunized against seven preventable
diseases.
National Rural Health
Mission, Family Welfare Department
and the Directorate
of Health Services Manipur
are coordinating the works to
fully implement Mission
Indradhanush in Manipur.
All
concerned departments are
working tirelessly to reach to
each and every corner of the
State, stated the director of
Medical Health Service, O
Ibomcha in a press briefing
held today at his office chamber
located on RIMS road.
The mission targets to immunize
all children against
seven preventable diseases,
namely Diphtheria, Pertussis
(Whooping Cough), Tetanus,
Tuberculosis, Polio, Hepatitis
B, Measles.
But for the State,
vaccines for Japanese Encephalitis
(JE) and
Haemophilus influenzae type
B (HIB) are provided.
In the fourth round of the
Second phase of Mission
Indradhanush, four districts
Thoubal, Chandel, Imphal
East and Bishnupur will be
covered.
To reach the remote area
of Khengjoi block of Chandel
district which include
Molcham, New Somtal and
Yangoulen, special arrangement
were made from the
Union Home Ministry and its
counterparts of Myanmar to
cross the neighbouring territory
and reach the people of
the said areas.
For the first
time bullet motorcycles will
be employed to cross inaccessible
areas.
If necessary
helicopters would be deployed,
he added.
He also urged all sections
of the people to provide full
cooperation to make the mission
a success.
He said that
11,785 children and 5,892
pregnant women are targeted
to be covered.
After the completion
of the third phase of
Mission Indradhanush, immunization
of children under
the age of two and pregnant
women will be increased considerably,
added State Nodal
Officer (Immunisation), Directorate
of Family Welfare,
Dr Th Nandakishore.
By 2020 more than 90 pc
of the targeted group will be
covered in the State.
Such
activities of the directorate has
led to decrease in Infant
Mortality Rate in the State, he
added.
