State quotas of rice, sugar and wheat from the Food Corporation of India (FCI) will be lifted from FCI godowns at Jiribam as transporters could not lift the items from Dimapur due to the ban on state vehicles plying the Imphal-Dimapur section of the NH-39 .
Earlier, transporters used to lift the state quotas of rice, wheat and sugar from the FCI from its godowns at Jiribam till 2000 upto its Imphal godowns located at Sangaiporou.
But by an order of the FCI, the same was lifted from its godowns at Ram Nagar in Assam and at Dimapur and continue till date.
Godowns of Mizoram and some part of the Assam and since the Transporters and Driver Council (TDC) imposed banned on the plying of state vehicles on the NH-39, state quotas of these items are presently lifting from Ram Nagar godowns.
FCI officials has agreed to sent state quotas of rice, sugar and wheat from Ram Nagar upto Jiribam by rail where trucks will against ferry upto Imphal.
The proposal of lifting the items from Jiribam upto Imphal will be discussed during the visit of the FCI officials in Imphal.
The FCI team led by executive director Dr Amar Singh is scheduled to arrive at Imphal tomorrow.
Union joint secretary (NE region) Navin Verma will also among the officials team.
Presently, no rice, wheat and sugar in stock at the FCI godowns and transporters also could not sent their trucks to lift the items due to the bad condition of the NH-53 coupled with the restriction that trucks with more than 9 tones weight.
Mention may be made the TDC is refusing to ply their vehicles on the Imphal-Dimapur section of the NH-39 demanding compensations for the trucks damaged in Nagaland state during the NSF ban on Manipur vehicles in Nagaland and seeking assurance for free from all sorts of extortion demands on the highways.
