With the discovery of acute encephalitis syndrome in the last few days, fear of possible break out of Japanese Encephalitis looms large in the State.
To ascertain the facts, the State Health Services has collected samples from infected persons and sent them to the National Institute of Communicable Diseases, New Delhi for laboratory testing.
Speaking to The Sangai Express, Additional Director of State Health Services Sh Surchandra said that there have been reports from hospitals about spreading of acute encephalitis syndrome.
To ascertain the syndrome, samples collected from persons suffering from the syndrome have been sent to NICD today for laboratory test.

Stating that they have reports about a person who passed away recently with encephalitis symptoms in a hospital, Surchandra informed that the person was not diagnosed to confirm whether the exact cause of the death was Japanese Encephalitis.
According to information received from Shija Hospitals and Research Institute, 13 patients suspected to be suffering from similar symptoms are undergoing treatment in the hospital.
Out of them, condition of two is said to be critical while four others have been put on ventilators.
19 other patients showing similar symptoms have been admitted at RIMS.
Meanwhile, a notification issued by Additional Director Surchandra has confirmed that many people suffering from acute encephalitis syndrome have been undergoing treatment in different hospitals.
He also prescribed certain precautionary measures against the disease.
Some common symptoms of the disease are intense fever, headache and vomiting and loss of consciousness in some cases.
The notification advised people to rush to nearby hospitals if any happens to lose consciousness all of a sudden.
Saying that due measures have been taken to check extensive break out of the disease, Surchandra informed that efforts are on for fumigation in all districts in order to exterminate mosquitoes causing the disease.
Some precautionary measures prescribed by the Health Services include prevention from mosquito bites, wearing clothes with long sleeves, clothing children with clothes which cover the whole body and compulsory use of mosquito nets while sleeping.
