Locals oppose development of bitumen plant at Moidangpok

Imphal, March 26 2025: Voicing opposition to the development of a bitumen plant in the residential area of Moidangpok, locals staged a sit-in protest at Moidangpok Aheibam Leikai today.

Speaking on the sideline of the protest, Longjam Biju Devi from Moidangpok Maning Leikai urged the Government to intervene and issue a response by tomorrow, failing which NH-37 will be blocked thereafter.

Delving into the matter, Biju further claimed that in violation of a 2021 Court order, attempts are being made to set up a bitumen factory, stone crushing unit and brick farm in densely populated regions of Moidangpok.

As a result, local clubs, meira paibis and people of the area have gathered today to protest against these developments as construction of such factories is adversely impacting the health of the local people, she maintained.
