Job card holders urge for early wages

MGNREGS job card holders of Khonghampat gram panchayat have urged the Imphal West deputy commissioner (DC) to release their wages withheld following complaints about subpar execution of the MGNREGS works.
The Imphal West DC had put on hold the wages of the job card holders of Khonghampat gram panchayat following complaints that the MGNREGS works.carried out by the job card holders did not meet the prescribed quality.
An order was issued by the DC in this regard.
In response, a meeting was held at the Khonghampat Awang Leikai community hall, attended by the villagers of Khonghampat and Imphal West GP chairperson L Boby.
The meeting addressed the DCs order and involved discussions with the administration committee of the gram panchayat.
During the meeting, concerns about the quality of work by the job card holders were clarified, and those who had lodged complaints agreed to withdraw their grievances.
In this connection, Khonghampat gram panchayat administrative committee chairman Waikhom Chandrakumar stated that as the charges levelled against the job card holders were found to be completely false and malicious wages of the job card holders should not be withheld.
Meanwhile, MGNREGS job card holders of Awang Khunou gram panchayat organised a sit-in protest demanding the immediate withdrawal of the ban imposed by the Imphal West DC on their work.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the protest held at the Energetic Pioneer Association community hall, Awang Khunou, participants urged the authorities to clarify the reasons behind the restriction on their work.
They expressed disappointment that the authorities, without weighing conditions of the public amid the crisis situation, blocked their work and infringed on their rights.
The protesters called for the prohibition to be lifted immediately so that the job card holders can resume their work.
