Ukhrul reels under acute LPG shortage

Ukhrul, July 14 2010: Concerned over the acute shortage of LPG creating inconvenience to consumers in Ukhrul district in the aftermath of the two-month long eco-blockade called by ANSAM, a press conference was held here today at LAES conference hall.

The caretaker of Zingsho Gas Agency, Soso Shaiza, addressing the conference said while the agency has at present a total of 8580 registered consumers, the allocation of gas cylinder from Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) Sekmai is too meagre that it could not reach many of the consumers. Usually the district requires 18 trucks � each carrying 306 cylinders �per month but since the supply of gas cylinder to the district is too less that it creates a lot of hardship for the agency in dispatching them to the consumers, Soso said.

On quota system, she said "adhering to the rules and regulations laid down by the Commissioner, Consumer Affairs Food & Public Distribution (CAF&PD) Government of Manipur, the agency entertains only those VIPS or Government functionaries who hold the permits issued by the department of CAF&PD.

She further said that only one filled LPG cylinder is being issued to each card holder who has booked in advance.

Taking note of the recent confrontation arising out of the alleged ignorance of the public regarding LPG supply system, she appealed all concerned to cooperate the agency for smooth and peaceful issue of LPG cylinders in future.
