President's Rule imminent, says Chaoba

Imphal, February 05 2015: Asserting that the state machineries are in total disarray and the government is turning a blind eye to the sufferings of the people, chief of state BJP Thanoujam Chaoba declared that the existing situation in the state is an open invitation to the Centre for proclamation of President's Rule.

Talking to mediapersons at the BJP office at Nityaipat Chuthek on Thursday, Chaoba remarked that President's Rule is inevitable if the present trend of large scale corruption, bungling in financial management and degradation of law and order are allowed to continue further.

He expressed fear that the state government will fail miserably in utilizing the funds sanctioned by the Centre and other agencies.

Supporting his view, Chaoba said the government has so far used a meagre 27 percent of the total amount sanctioned by the Centre.

With the current fiscal year about to end in two months time, the government has another Rs 2,545 crores to spend, he stated adding that it will be a gargantuan task chalking out a formula to utilize the amount within such a short period of time.

He further informed that efforts will be made for gaining approval for an enquiry into the transaction of account no.8449 .

Chaoba was anguished with the state government for overspending the amount allocated by the North Eastern Council.

According to him, the sanctioned amount was Rs 45 crore while the state spent Rs 62 crores, leading to an arrear of Rs 17 crores.

He criticized the state government for the aggravating law and order condition, claiming that the situation merit intervention from the Centre.

The situation in the hill area is so bad that there is not any semblance of law and order there, he stated.

The hills have been ignored during the process for modernization of police and procurement of police vehicle.

Commenting on the crisis in Tegnoupal over the alleged atrocities of the Assam Rifles personnel, he stated that the harassment of civilians and small time traders cannot be taken lightly.

He demanded that the chief minister and his government resign on moral ground for failing to manage the crisis.

Chaoba further castigated the Congress and the CPI for trying to take political mileage from the BJP vision document's description of North East people as immigrants.

He said the misunderstanding was over a printing mistake and the matter had been settled.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had apologized and clarified about the inadvertent error during a public meeting, he added.
