Imphal, April 17 2024: A security briefing was conducted on Wednesday at the District Election Office, Imphal West in connection with the election in Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency on April 19 in first Phase of the 18th Lok Sabha Election.

Chairing the meeting, Imphal West district election officer (DEO) Th Kirankumar highlighted security measures taken up to ensure safe, free and fair election as Imphal West SP Ksh Shivakanta briefed police officers and personnel on security strategies and measures.

He further emphasised the need to ensure smooth conduct of the election and discussed the various SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) in place.

Officers from law enforcement agencies including the Manipur Police (MP), India Reserve Battalion (IRB), and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), alongside Assistant Returning Officers (AROs) of all assembly constituencies in Imphal West district participated in the briefing.

There will be a total of 1,319 polling stations in Inner Manipur PC (1-IMPC), including 29 special polling stations for the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), 145 women manned polling stations and 13 model polling stations.

The DEO has also identified 70 vulnerable and critical polling stations and have made special security arrangements - such as deployment of micro-observers and multiple security layers in addition to the normal security measures.

Meanwhile, Imphal East DEO Khumanthem Diana informed that all security measures are in place for peaceful conduct of the 18th Lok Sabha election for Inner Manipur PC on April 19 .

She also stated that around 3,23,843 voters including 77 transgender are eligible to cast their vote in the district.

Briefing media persons at the DC's Porompat office on Wednesday, DEO Diana informed that for the first phase election, chief minister N Biren will cast his vote at Srivan Higher Secondary School, Luwangsangbam; chief secretary Vineet Joshi at Raja Dumbra High School, and CEO PK Jha at Areca School.

A total of 441 polling stations along with 9 polling stations have been opened at 10 ACs of the district, of which 143 are all women polling stations including all polling stations in Yaiskul and Wangkhei assembly segments.

One Model Polling Station will be opened at each of the 10 assembly segments.

She further informed that 1631 senior citizens and People with Disabilities (PwDs) have already cast their votes via postal ballots as part of ECI 's Vote from Home facility.

728 outer voters included under the first phase and 999 inner voters displaced by the conflict and staying in relief camps opened in the district, will cast their votes at the special polling stations, she conveyed.

The DEO said the district has eight vulnerable and 67 critical polling stations with Central Armed Police Forces, state forces and others either deployed in all the polling stations or kept on reserve.

The DEO also informed that for the first time in the state, electric vehicles will be utilised for movement of polling personnel in Yaiskul and Wangkhei assembly segments, as part of a trial to reduce carbon emission on the poll day.

On top of this, the first eco-friendly polling station will be opened in Wangkhei, so as to set up a plastic-free and environment friendly polling station.

DEO Khumanthem then urged for a peaceful, free and fair election, while appealing to the people of the district to extend their support in this regard.

SENAPATI: In preparation for the ensuing election, Senapati District Election Office conducted a SVEEP (Systematic Voters' Education and Electoral Participation) rally for free and fair election and greater participation for stronger democracy across Senapati town.

Addressing the gathering, SDC Senapati Ngaonii Panii mentioned on the purpose of SVEEP and urged the eligible voters for maximum participation on the polling day.

T-shirt and cap were also distributed as part of the programme.

The SVEEP rally from Astro Turf ground to TNK Gate and back to the starting point, was participated by around 140 persons comprising NSS volunteers of St Xavier College, ICDS Anganwadi workers and helpers, college students, NYK volunteers, ZEO staff and teachers and Youth & Affair Sports officials.

Slogans like 'I vote for sure,' 'Don't be keyboard warrior, Go & vote on 26th April', 'Nothing like voting', 'Keep calm and make your vote count' etc.

were also displayed by the participants.

THOUBAL: Thoubal DEO distributed prizes to winners of district level painting competition organised on the theme "Role of Youths in Democracy " organised by SVEEP Thoubal on April 21 at Waikhom Mani Girls College, Thoubal.

A cash of Rs 3000, Rs 2000 and Rs 1000 each were handed over to the first, second and third position winners respectively and Rs 500 each to five consolation prize winners, along with certificates, SVEEP T-shirts and caps.

The month-long election poster campaign also concluded on Wednesday.
