Imphal, July 14 2010: Even as the Government has decided to implement semester system in State colleges, Thoubal College is currently plagued with infrastructure, faculty and manpower inadequacy.

Highlighting the grievances of the college, secretary of the students union, Robert Okhalay in a press conference said that the college campus has become the grazing ground of cattle.

As outsiders are frequently barging into the college complex, hostels for both boys and girls have been closed for long.

Mentioning about lack of college staff, the General Secretary said that 12 posts of teaching and 14 posts of non-teaching are currently lying vacant in the college.

He appealed the Government to fill up the vacant posts at the earliest.

Robert Okhalay further said that due to lack of manpower, library staff are facing lots of inconvenience.

Conveying that the college has 1285 students in Science and Arts streams, the General Secretary said that as the teachers are not taking classes properly, the students are not attaining classes regularly.

The students union has complained the Principal and concerned Department one month back in this regard, however no action has been taken up so far, he added.

He said that the college does not have toilet, parking, power and water supplies.

The college also does not have a connecting road, he added.

The General Secretary said that Thoubal College has not been holding annual sports meet since past few years.

He however said that the college is planning to host an inter-college sports meet in September/October.

Robert Okhalay also urged the teachers to attain college regularly and asked the students to come in full college uniform.

He warned that if the Government fails to take up positive steps in this regard, All Manipur College Students Union would take up necessary steps.
