Imphal, November 20 2024:
Against the backdrop of re-imposition of AFS-PA-1958 in the state where people are already reeling under Kuki-Meetei violence since May 3, 2023, All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO) president Nando Luwang has stressed the need for launching an intense movement against the draconian law.
"Just as reared chicks need nourishment, AFSPA too needs food with women's dignity, human life and human blood as main ingredients," Nando stated while addressing protestors at Uripok canteen road junction on Wednesday where a relay hunger strike is being organised by Uripok Apunba Lup and Uripok Nupi Apunba Lup against the recent brutal killing of three children and three women by Kuki militants in Jiribam district.
AMUCO president Nando, who joined the protest on the fifth day Wednesday, reminded the protestors that the position of the Meeteis in the ongoing war is to save Manipur and not to distort or break it apart.
"On the contrary, Kuki-Zo community openly declared their demand even at the global platforms to have separate administration by disintegrating Manipur.
Kuki-Zo ministers, MLAs, CSOs and people are voicing for this demand and launched various tactics using guns and bombs, propaganda and distortion of history.
Apart from this, Kuki-Zo are playing games to create disunity among the Meeteis as is being played out on social media," Nando said.
Amidst the volatile situation, AFSPA is being re-imposed in areas under the jurisdiction of six police stations where people have already suffered due to the present crisis, he not, adding the same is putting a renewed strain on the suffering of the people.
"AFSPA will bring more suffering to the people and this is an attempt by the Government of India to completely uproot the Meetei people," Nando cautioned and stressed the need for launching an intense movement to repeal the draconian law from Manipur altogether.
On Tuesday, COCOMI spokesperson Khuraijam Athouba addressed the protestors, stressing that it not the time for remaining silent, but launch relentless public movement to save Manipur.
The relay hunger strike is being carried out to demand that the government declare all Kuki organisations as terrorist outfits and arrest culprits involved in the abduction and brutal murder of six children and women in Jiribam district.
