CCpur, January 14 2026: In a heartfelt tribute to the selfless service and sacrifices of the nation's guardians, the Assam Rifles celebrated Veterans Day today at the Sector Headquarters in Churachandpur.

Armed Forces Veterans Day is celebrated on January 14 to commemorate the formal retirement of Field Marshal KM Cariappa, OBE, the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army, who hung up his uniform on this day in 1953 .

As per a press note issued by the IGAR (South), the event witnessed the participation of 144 veterans from various services, including 44 from the Indian Army, 35 from Assam Rifles, 39 from the Border Security Force (BSF) and 26 from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) .

The programme commenced with a visit to the recently installed 65 feet National Flag at Tuibong, where a band display and the National Anthem set a patriotic tone.
