Kangpokpi, March 05 2025:
Village Volunteers - Eastern Zone have issued a strong warning against any attempts to enter Kuki-Zo areas without first addressing the longstanding demand for a Separate Admin-istration/Union Territory with a legislature for the Kuki-Zo people.
This statement comes in direct response to the Federation of Civil Society Organisations (FOCS) announcing its plan to march toward the 'hill districts' on March 8 .
The VVs have made it unequivocally clear, there will be no free movement in Kuki-Zo territories until justice is served and a separate governing structure is established.
Alleging relentless injustices, inhumane atrocities, and systematic oppression against by Kuki-Zo people, the VVs asserted that such sufferings cannot be disregarded under the guise of peace marches.
They maintained that those responsible for past violence, those who have denied the rights of the Kuki-Zo people, and those complicit in oppression will not be granted free passage into their lands.
"Our demand for a Separate Administration is not just a political aspiration - it is a necessity for our survival, security, and dignity" .
The group has urged all relevant authorities to acknowledge the deep-seated grievances and legitimate demands of the Kuki-Zo people.
They further cautioned that any individual or organisation attempting to negotiate or reconcile with perpetrators through the government before the establishment of a Separate Administration/UT will face severe consequences.
The statement emphasised that the Kuki-Zo people have endured decades of marginalisation, discrimination, and violence, and any attempt to downplay their struggle will not be tolerated.
The group further called upon the international community's human rights organisations, and all justice-seeking entities to take note of the alleged systematic persecution of the Kuki-Zo people and their rightful demand for self-governance.
