Many areas, paddy fields still under water

Imphal, June 04 2025:
On account of the collapse Of embankments and overflow of flood waters from Imphal River and Kongba River, many localities, particularly in Imphal East district are still flooded and vast tracts of paddy fields remain inundated.
Porompat, Kongpal and surrounding areas including Imphal East DC office complex, SP office complex and JNIMS are still reeling under flood.
While the in-patients of JNIMS Hospital have been shifted to RIMS Hospital, Porompat Water Supply has also suspended operations.
With the exception of heavy vehicles, Porompat DC Road as well as Wangkhei-Kongba Road remain inaccessible.
The situation is more or less similar at some sections of Singjamei-Kongba Road and Ayangpalli Road.
However, Imphal-Ukhrul Road which remained off limits to light vehicles due to flooding on the northern side of Khabeisoi is now accessible as the water level has receded.
Even though the breached section of Kongba River at Bashikhong Kongba Irong has been repaired, vast tracts of paddy fields in Bashikhong and Khongman, and a large number of homesteads are still inundated or water-logged.
Meanwhile, a large number of people were caught in a panicky situation as a section of Imphal River embankment started collapsing at Oinam Sawombung, Imphal West even though the level of Imphal River has receded.
Reports said that people of the locality struggled hard to repair the collapsed section and prevent the embankment from collapsing any further.
