Imphal, November 01 2018:
Although the State Government had set to inaugurate the Thoubal Multipurpose Project (Mapithel/Maphou Dam) few months back, the rehabilitation process of the affected villagers is yet to be settled.
The approach road from Lamlai to the dam has also been left unattended with dust and bumps present everywhere along the road stretch, which is in stark contrast to the Government's plan of making the dam a tourist attraction/destination.
With the existence of different organizations waiting to reap the benefits from the rehabilitation package, alternative accommodation and livelihood of the affected villagers are still pending.
Mapithel Dam Affected Villagers' Organization (MDACTO), an organization which claimed to be the genuine organization for the affected villagers, has claimed that it garners full support from the affected villagers of various communities.
During a press meet held at Moirangpurel in Imphal East district, MDACTO secretary T Somorjit along with the representatives from various affected villages refuted and rejected the claim made in the recent past by another organization that the former organization (MDACTO) was dissolved.
It also conveyed that the organization will not support any bandh called in connection with Mapithel Dam construction.
The secretary alleged that a different organization formed by Headmen/chiefs of some villages, with vested interest, has tried to mislead the people by claiming their organization as genuine/authentic for affected villagers and misinformed the public that MDACTO was dissolved.
MDACTO chairman Ramthar Shaija too alleged that the organization of the village Headmen/chiefs was formed with the belief that the rehabilitation package of all the affected villagers will come through their hands.
