Jiribam police gets high speed motorboats to secure Jiri waterways

The Jiribam district police got two high speed motorboats to patrol on Jiri and Barak river, so as to restrict illegal activities including influx of migrants using the waterways.
Today, the newly sanctioned high speed motorboats for patrolling in the waterway of Jiribam was launched by Superintendent of Police, Jiribam Mubi Moirangthem along with Addl SP H Basulal Singh and SDPO, Jiribam Th Sanatomba Singh at Jirimukh police outpost.
"The Government issued the high-speed motorboats for protection of waterways of Jiribam district," said SP Jiribam Mubi Moirangthem.
Jiri river merged with Barak river at Jirimukh and it connects Jiribam/Manipur with Cachar, Assam, he said pointing out the important roles the high-speed motorboats will play in fighting crimes/illegal activities in the waterway.
Police outpost at Jirimukh was opened to secure the waterways, he said.
He added that the Government has taken the step mainly to restrict the flows of illegal immigrants, illegal transportation of forest products and contraband drugs through the waterways.
"Considering the topographical features of the region, Jirimukh seems to be one of the vulnerable areas where there is no proper motorable roads nearby the waterways," he said further pointing out the importance of the high-speed motorboats.
Saying all efforts will be made to secure the waterways, he called for public co-operation.
