Seminar on 'Manipuri folk narrative and culture' begins

Imphal, September 19 2026: A two-day seminar on "Manipuri Folk Narrative and Culture" organised by Cultural Forum Manipur under the Chief Ministergi Artistessinggi Tengbang (CMAT) 2025-26 began at GP Women's College, DMU, Imphal on Saturday.

Prof Rajen Toijamba, Convenor, Manipuri Advisory Board, Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi; Cultural Forum Manipur president, Prof Huirem Behari; and GP Women's College Principal, Prof L Rajen attended as presidium members.

The academic session was moderated by Prof Koijam Shantibala.

Papers were presented by Dr Usham Niranjan Kumar on "Manipuri lounam namthakki phungawari Hanuba Hanubi Pan Thaba gi wari amasung naat", Dr Kh Geetarani on "Manipuri phungawari Sandrembi Chaishra da yaoriba naat ki masaksing", and Dr L Koireng on "Moirang Lammitlonda yaoriba Manipuri naat ki masaksing" .

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Rajen Toijamba said seminars on folk narrative and culture will benefit students and help them learn unknown aspects of Manipur's history.

He urged students to actively participate and learn from experts.

He said organising such seminars is a good step to make students aware of Manipur's rich history.
