ZSUTD closes HSCs in Tamenglong

Joining hands with the All Tribal Students' Union Manipur, the Zeliangrong Student's Union Tamenglong District (ZSUTD) on Tuesday closed down all higher secondary schools in the district.
Following the announcement to close down higher secondary schools in the entire hill districts with effect from 14 June by All Tribal Student's Union Manipur (ATSUM) in furtherance of its charter of demands the ZSUTD locked up the main gate of Tamenglong Higher Secondary School.
Riamei Joseph, Coordinator of ZSUTD said that the state government has been neglecting the higher secondary schools in the hills with the intention to harass the students' community.
He said the union will intensify its agitation in the near future in a democratic form.
Riamei said that there are only two regular lecturers in Tamenglong higher secondary school, the rest are all contractuals.
He further told Hueiyen Lanpao, that the other two higher secondary schools, Tengkuanjang higher secondary school at Longmai (Noney) and Khangsinlung higher secondary school at Khoupum also reportedly closed down.
It may recalled that the ATSUM is demanding regularisation of 705 contractual lecturers and issues pertaining to manipulation and misuse of tribal quota in Manipur legislative Assembly, transfer of land records and special recruitment drive in JNIMS, etc are featured in the demands of the ATSUM.
