Twenty-two women who work for the upliftment of the society were honoured today by the Manipur Peace and Integrity Council (MAPI Council) in its ninth foundation observed with a function at Kangla hall, Imphal.
Speaking on the occasion, the president of the council, Th Manihar alleged that the Village Defense Force (VDF) detailing at every nooks and corners of the Imphal area have started collecting money from the people while the police are doing nothing despite knowing the activities of the VDF.
He further asked whether they have been detailed after imparting training for money collection and why they are deploying in the city area even though they are mean for deployment in the villages to assist the police personnel.
He also demands to stop extortion by any group, killing people and repeal AFSPA, 1958 from the state and to save Sharmila.
While the council is efforting to strengthen the emotional love among the people of different communities residing in both hills and valley, security forces are killing people in an unrestrained manner, he added.
People in the hills opposed deployment of police commandos and IRB because of fear of committing the act of spate of killing in the hills area too like in the valley area.
In order to save the life of the people, the council also support to the move against the deployment of them.
H Bhorot, founder president of the MAPI Council and currently secretary of the Raijya Sainik Board expressed concerned over having no habit of unity among the people of the state.
In the wake of mushrooming civil bodies, it has been tired in giving reply to questions raised on why so much.
He also said that so far as there is insurgency problem in the state, violence and unrest situation will be remain, he observed.
M Rajendro, retired joint director, animal and veterinary husbandry and also advisor of the council speaking on the occasion said that MAPI Council has been working for peace, integrity and development in the state since its existence.
HERICOUN president, R Chothe who attended the function as special invitee said that the original culture, tradition and social system of the people of the state is losing day by day.
When the culture vanished, there would erupt conflict situation and clash will occurred among the different communities.
