Imphal, October 15 2014:
With the end of campaigning today for Hiyanglam by-poll scheduled to be held on Oct 17, all arrangements have been put in place to ensure the smooth and peaceful conduct of the election.
As campaigning ended at 4 pm today, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) O Nabakishore informed The Sangai Express that MPs, MLAs and political functionaries from other ACs were barred from carrying out activities in Hiyanglam AC.
In order to ensure peaceful by-election, all the 34 polling stations in the Assembly segment have been declared hypersensitive.
There are a total of 24492 voters in the AC including 38 service voters and 12539 female voters.
Each polling station would be manned by 10 Central paramilitary personnel each.
Voting for the by-poll, which will witness a five-cornered contest, will begin from 5 am of Oct 17 till 5 pm of the same day.
All the polling personnel would be briefed tomorrow before they depart for their respective destinations, the CEO informed.
A temporary shed for voters would be set up at each polling station besides providing adequate drinking water.
Voters without voter slip would be allowed to exercise their franchise by producing any of the eleven identity proof documents authorised by the EC, O Nabakishore said.
He added that the EVMs would be kept under guard by Central paramilitary personnel after the voting is over.
