Imphal, January 22 2013:
Manipur People's Party (MPP) has appealed to all concerned to stop making irrelevant and useless demands just for the heck of it and cautioned that such demands would only create more chaos in the society.
In an exclusive chat with Hueiyen Lanpao, N Sobhakiran, President in-charge of MPP, stated that since 1980, NSCN (IM) has been fighting for a sovereign Nagaland.
But in 1997 the Naga rebel group withdrew its demand and started peace talks with the Indian Government.
The peace talk, which has continued even longer that its revolutionary movement, seem to be going astray today.
He also noted that the Kukis in Manipur have been demanding a separate state to be curved out of the present Manipur.
They have even called an indefinite public blockade in Kuki inhabited areas from January 24 .
But the truth is that the demand for a separate Kuki State from the present Manipur is equally useless like that of the endless Indo-NSCN (IM) political dialogue.
So, the agitating Kuki organization should withdraw their demands as it would only create more problems among the general public.
Furthermore, Sobhakiran pointed out that on one hand, Nagas are claiming large portion of Manipur as their ancestral land and bringing out a map in this connection, while on the other hand, the Kukis are also assuming certain areas of the State as their rightful land and bringing out a another map.
Both the parties are fighting for their share of land thereby creating hatred and mistrust among the different sections of the people living in Manipur.
"They are bringing out issues which concern only 'themselves' forgetting 'our' issue which needs to be highlighted and discussed so that there can be peace among us all", he observed, and added that these sections of the society are playing small and petty politics which are community based and trying to disintegrate the unity of the State.
"This will not do any good to the society other than creating more and more problem among the people", Sobhakiran maintained.
