Jiribam JAC to claim bodies today

Following an understanding reached with the government authorities, the JAC formed against the killing of three children and three women of Jakuradhor in Jiribam by Kuki militants have decided to claim all the bodies on Thursday.
Apart from bodies of three children and three women brutally killed after abduction by Kuki militants, the JAC will also claim two bodies recovered after the November 11 firing spree at Jakuradhor by the same group.
According to a JAC functionary, government has assured to fulfil its demands including arrest of Kuki-Zo-Hmar militants involved in the Jakuradhor attack within 72 hours, and hand over the case to the NIA and.
The JAC also demanded declaration of Hmar village volunteers as terrorists to which the government assured to declare Hmar village volunteers as unlawful organisation/ terrorist within seven days.
Apart from this, the government also assured to provide ex-gratia to the next of kin of all the deceased persons and government jobs to surviving families of the deceased persons, the JAC leader said adding that last rites of all the deceased civilians will be performed on Thursday with full honours.
The JAC formed against the killing of Khundrakpam Athouba in a firing by senior SP Nectar on November 17 evening at Jiribam town also reached an understanding with the government and accordingly Athouba's body will be claimed on Thursday for performing last rites.
Post mortem examination of all the eight bodies recovered after Jakuradhor attack have been conducted at Silchar Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) but the bodies remained unclaimed as no understanding was reached between the JAC and government.
It is likely that last rites of the civilians killed in the Jakuradhor attack will be performed at a suitable location in Jiribam.
