CMAT programmes showcase folk legacy in Imphal

Three cultural programmes under Chief Ministergi Artistessinggi Tengbang (CMAT) 2025-26 were held in Imphal today.
Ta-Khousarol
A 15-day workshop on "Ta-Khousarol - The Legacy of Late Guru Moirangthem Ibetombi Singh" organised by Khwai Martial Arts Academy (KMAA), Uripok began today at Khundongbam Mandop, Uripok Achom Leikai.
The function was graced by dignitaries, including Nongthongbam Achouba Singh, former president Youth Club, Uripok Achom Leikai; Ningthoukhongjam Tombi Raj, chairman NKSCT Uripok; Thangjam Shantikumar Singh, Grand Master Kungfu and Guru Thang-Ta; and Laishram Somendra Singh, vice president of KMAA.
Speaking on the occasion, KMAA vice chairman Ranjit Adhikarimayum said Ta-Khousarol is performed everywhere but the style left by Late Guru Moirangthem Ibetombi Singh is unique and ritualistic, performed with songs according to its forms.
He said the Guru left 10 forms of Ta-Khousarol, of which 4 will be taught in the workshop.
Nata Sankirtana
A 30-day workshop cum production on "Nata Sankirtana (Khubak Ishei)" organised by Traditional Folk and Cultural Research Centre (TFCRC), Mongshangei concluded today at Nabadip Chandra Prabhu Mandap, Mongshangei.
G Dharmadas Sharma; TFCRC president, Y Bimolata; Rupmahal Theatre vice chairman, L Brajamohon; and Senior Guru JNMDA Meihoubam Satyaban attended as presidium members.
TFCRC secretary G Latasana Devi said apart from Khubak Ishei, the centre also plans to promote Gouranga Leela, San Senba, Khunung Ishei, Khullang Ishei and Khongjom Parva.
'Ema Piyu' staged
New production of Social Dramatic Union (SDU), Uripok titled "Ema Piyu" was staged at Rupmahal Theatre, Imphal.
Joint Director, Art & Culture, G Dharmadas Sharma, SDU president Saikhom Birendrakumar, State Kala Akademi awardee Ksh Somorendro and former Principal Government Dance College Ranjit Adhikarimayum attended as presidium members.
