State sees highest spike in 127 days, TPR in 154 days

Imphal, January 16 2022: As the third wave of Covid-19 pandemic tightens its grip, the state recorded highest daily new positive cases in 127 days on Sunday with government bulletins reporting 279 new cases.

The last time the daily new cases crossed 279 was on September 11 last year, which recorded 292 fresh cases with 9.04 per cent positivity rate.

Daily test rate remains notable low with only 1938 samples tested in the last 24 hours registering a positivity rate of 14.40 per cent, which is also the highest in 154 days.

August 15 year reported 15.41 per cent positivity rate with 602 fresh cases and since then the daily positivity rate had been below 14 per cent until Sunday.

Sunday also reported one death case which took the fatality count to 2015 .

The victim was a resident of Imphal East district, who had taken the second dose of Covid vaccine.

So far, 144 vaccinated people, including 27 with second dose, had died due to Covid-19.With the discharge of only 59 patients from home isolation (32), JNIMS (3) and CCCs (24) in the last 24 hours contrary to addition of the record number of new cases, the caseload rose to 1282 out of which 337 (26.29 per cent) are in home isolation.

There are 127 vacant beds available in JNIMS and 37 in RIMS but there is no updated information on bed availability in Covid Care Centres.

Out of the 16 districts, 12 reported fresh Covid cases on Sunday.

So far, the state has recorded 97,858 positive cases and 1641 fatalities since the beginning of the second wave of the pandemic.

The current month has reported 1470 new positive cases and 13 fatalities.

The weekly number of new cases and fatalities have also risen to 1102 and 4 respectively.

According to official reports, the 279 fresh cases include 202 people (112 male & 90 female) from among the general population and 77 personnel of Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) whose samples were confirmed at RIMS (51), JNIMS (71) and other testing centres (157) .

The positive cases from among the general population are from Imphal East (53), Imphal West (98), Thoubal (7), Bishnupur (2), Kakching (6), Kangpokpi (6), Tamenglong (1), Tengnoupal (2), Senapati (4), Ukhrul (4) and Churachandpur (19) .

All necessary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place.

The cumulative number of positive cases has reached 1,27,258 (general population - 1,22,540 and CAPF personnel - 4,718) .

Number of recovered cases is 1,23,961 (general population - 119,511 and CAPF personnel - 4,450) and number of active cases is 1282 (general population - 1020 and CAPF personnel - 262) .

The recovery rate has come down to 97.41 per cent.

A total of 150 D-type and 51 B-type Oxygen cylinders have been made available to different health facilities in the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, 4507 vaccine doses were administered on Saturday which took the cumulative number of vaccinated people to 13,61,456 out of which 10,19,282 had received the second dose and 5962 had precautionary dose.

As per data maintained by The People's Chronicle based on IDSP and CCR reports, number of total cases in different districts are Imphal West (44,660), Imphal East (28,240), Thoubal (9562), Churachandpur (10,397), Kangpokpi (2814), Tamenglong (3290), Bishnupur (9281), Senapati (2290), Ukhrul (3072), Kakching (6498), Chandel (2462), Noney (1097), Tengnoupal (1089), Jiribam (1049), Kamjong (993) and Pherzawl (464) .

Fatality counts in different districts are Imphal West (676), Imphal East (483), Thoubal (179), Churachandpur (163), Kangpokpi (64), Tamenglong (14), Bishnupur (195), Senapati (10), Ukhrul (45), Kakching (116), Chandel (41), Noney (4), Tengnoupal (13), Jiribam (7), Kamjong (5) and Pherzawl (0) .

Data analysed by this daily shows that the rate of infection remains 41,011 confirmed cases per million population (based on projected population of 31,03,000 as per NCP report) against the national average of 26,499 CPM.

Test rate has improved to 4,80,744 tests per million population against the national average of 5,01,439 TPM.

Case fatality rate came down to 1.58 per cent.

In the past 24 hours, only 1938 samples were tested and the single day positivity rate was 14.40 per cent while the cumulative positivity rose to 8.53 per cent.
