Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh has strongly condemned the bomb blast which occurred at Moirangkhom today as well as the recent such incidents that took place inside the gate of Zonal Water Reservoir of PHED, on the northern side of Kangla gate, Thangal bazaar near Marwari Dharmasala, causing loss of innocent human lives.
A statement issued by the Chief Minister's Secretariat said that Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh has strongly condemned the recent bomb blasts occurred in Imphal and added that such cowardly acts of attempting to cause terror has spoiled the image of Manipur and affects development momentum.
The Government has viewed these attacks on innocent civilians and against the state and national interest very seriously, the statement said, adding that those responsible for these criminal and subversive acts will not be spared.
At the same time, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, who is also holding the additional charge of Home, has condemned the Moirangkhom blast that claimed two lives and wounded five others.
Gaikhangam accompanied by MLA Z Kikhonbou Newmai, Additional Director General of Police LM Khoute and other top police officials visited Moirangkhom where two passenger van drivers were killed and five others wounded in an IED blast.
Talking to mediapersons on the sidelines of the inspection visit, Gaikhangam condemned the incident and termed it as an 'inhuman act of terror' .
Instead of fighting face to face with armed security personnel, why they are attacking civilians, Gaikhangam questioned, while wondering what benefit could be gained by those behind such blasts that kill innocent civilians.
It would not be nice if the dead were their own family members, he said.
The Deputy Chief Minister blamed such incidents of blast on some individuals who want money and ruled out the attack was carried out by militant organisations.
"Please don't kill civilians for a few rupees," he appealed.
He also assured that possible help will be extended to the kin of the victims after consulting with the Chief Minister.
Later, Gaikhangam visited Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) where he met the five persons who sustained injuries in Moirangkhom blast.
He also gave Rs 5, 000 each to the victims.
Meanwhile, two separate dharnas were staged in fronts of Hicham Yacham Pat and Krishna Premi Oil Pump at Moirangkhom in protest against the Moirangkhom blast.
