Campaign to stop discrimination against girl child launched

A campaign on "Stop Discrimination Against Girl Child" was launched today at Methodist Church Molnoi Area Campus in Chandel District under the theme "Let's make gender equality a lived reality" .
The campaign was organised by Rural Education & Action for Change, Manipur (REACH-M) under the sponsorship of Action Aid India.
During the campaign, K.Moikham Ronglo, Secretary of All Tribal Women Organisation, Chandel District; Hechin Haokip, Secretary Centre for Women & Girls and Tongpao Haokip, Director of REACH-M spoke on the topics of Gender Equality and practised of discrimination against girls child in the male dominated society.

Rev.Dr.Kim (Vaiphei) Haokip, Director of Sunday School Methodist Church in India, North East & Member All Manipur Christian Organisation, who attended the campaign as Guest Speaker, said that discrimination of girl child begin from their own family where the parents discriminated their children and prefer boy over a girl child in providing education and health care.
However, in the context of bible God created man and woman equally.
Therefore, we should stop discrimination against girl child who are also a creation of God, she added.
She further encouraged the participating students by giving examples of prominent women who excel in the field of Politics, sports, education, etc.
Rev.Seitinmang Vaiphei, Pastor Methodist Church Molnoi Area; Alung Kamei, Manager (Education) REACH-M and church leaders attended the campaign among other in which around 500 students of different schools also attended.
