Governor-designate arrives, swearing-in today

Imphal, January 02 2025:
Ajay Kumar Bhalla, the governor-designate of Manipur, who arrived here on Thursday was greeted at Imphal Airport around 1:30 pm by senior civil and police officials, including chief secretary Dr Vineet Joshi, DGP Rajiv Singh, and Imphal West DC Thokchom Kirankumar.
Upon his arrival, a reception programme was held at the Raj Bhavan, attended by chief minister N Biren Singh, speaker of the Manipur Legislative Assembly Th Satyabrata, security advisor Kuldiep Singh, cabinet ministers, chief secretary, DGP, and other senior officials.
The swearing-in ceremony of Ajay Kumar Bhalla as the new Governor of Manipur is scheduled to take place on Friday at 10:30 am in the Darbar Hall of Raj Bhavan.
Chief Justice of the High Court of Manipur, D Krish-nakumar, will administer the oath of office.
Ajay Kumar Bhalla was appointed Governor of Manipur on December 24, 2024 .
A retired IAS officer of the 1984 batch from the Assam-Meghalaya cadre, he brings with him vast administrative experience.
Bhalla, originally from Jalandhar, Punjab, served as the Union Home secretary from August 23, 2019, to August 22, 2024.During his tenure, he tackled several complex national challenges and played a pivotal role in addressing critical issues including the current crisis in the state.
