Thoubal, October 27 2026: The family of Laishram Rakesh claimed his body and performed the final rites today following assurances from the State Government regarding the case.

Laishram Rakesh was killed in a violent incident which broke out during a musical event organised by the CYSA Khangabok in connection with a football final match on the night of October 18 .

The body of the deceased was brought from RIMS morgue amid the presence of a large number of family members, Joint Action Committee (JAC) representatives and local residents.

People gathered along the road as the body was brought back and paid floral tributes.

Addressing media persons during a press meet held at Khangabok Mayai Leikai Laimang today, convenor of the Joint Action Committee (JAC) formed in connection with Rakesh's killing, Laishram Kiran said the JAC had decided to claim Rakesh's body following assurances from the Manipur Government regarding the case.

He stated that the Government had assured the JAC that three individuals, involved in the killing of Rakesh have been arrested and a chargesheet would be filed against them at the earliest and befitting punishment would be pursued in accordance with the law.

The JAC convenor also expressed gratitude to the public for supporting the JACs movements and extending their solidarity in connection with the unfortunate incident that occurred on October 18 .
