Fire destroys sawmill worth Rs 30 lakh at Lairouching

Senapati, March 26 2025: A massive fire broke out at Lairouching Sawmill on Thursday at around 12:30noon causing significant property damage.

While the exact cause of the fire remains unknown, preliminary reports suggest the possibility of foul play from unidentified miscreants.

According to the sawmill owner, the unfortunate incident resulted in an estimated loss of approx Rs 30 lakh, including timber, four to five truckloads of logs, machinery and raw materials.

Fortunately, no casualties have been reported.

Ng Joseph, the owner of Lairouching Sawmill, has extended his sincere gratitude to the 16 Assam Rifles, Maram, the Fire Department (Senapati), Maram Police Station and the villagers of Lairouching for their swift response and invaluable assistance in containing the fire.

Their timely efforts played a crucial role in preventing further destruction in surrounding areas, said Joseph.
