State observes World Mental Health Day

The World Mental Health Day, 2023, was observed today under the theme "Mental Health is a Universal Human Right" at Hotel Imphal, North AOC.
The programme was jointly organized by National Mental Health Program, National Health Mission & Directorate of Health Services, Manipur.
Speaking as the chief guest, Health Minister Dr Sapam Ranjan said that there is no one who doesn't have stress and as such it has become necessary to cope with stress at the right time.
Informing that Tele MANAS Cell has been opened in the State to provide comprehensive mental health care service to the people as awareness on mental health care has become highly necessary these days, he continued that mental fitness is necessary to live a productive life.

The Minister, while highlighting the stigma associated with disclosing mental health status, emphasized that early intervention in mental health care can prevent individuals from experiencing severe symptoms. Dr Ranjan went on to state that the role being played by the State Mental Health team during the ongoing crisis is appreciable.
Commissioner (Health) Pradeep Kumar Jha was the functional president while Director, Health Services Manipur, Dr Kh Sasheekumar Mangang, State Mission Director, NHM, Manipur, Dr Somorjit Ningombam were the guests of honor.
Dr Somorjit said that 30 teams of experts under the National Mental Health Programme have been undergoing counselling, group counselling, recreational activity, interactive programmes at different relief camps to keep the displaced people mentally fit.
A march rally and slogan and painting competition was also organized as a part of the observance.
Prizes were also distributed by the dignitaries to the winners of the competitions.
Officials and staff of Health Department, NHM, Manipur, National Mental Health Program also attended the programme among others.
The Department of Psychiatry of Regional Institute of Medical Science (RIMS) also observed the World Mental Health Day under the theme "Mental health is a universal human right" at the General OPD Block of the hospital.
At the observance, Director of RIMS Prof G Sunil Kumar said that good mental health is vital to the overall health and mental well-being.
