Imphal, November 04 2026:
Ahead of Ningol Chakkouba, Enat Yokhat Luptin (EYOL) has extended greetings to all Ningols of the State and appealed to avoid extravagance in giving gifts.
Speaking at a press meet at Keishamthong Elangbam Leikai, EYOL general secretary M Dhananjoy said society has been facing prolonged suffering, hardships and unrest.
Even now, peace has not returned.
People are living in fear and are suffering in many ways.
He said the economic condition of society is weakening and many of its customs are in decline.
The main reason for this downfall, he said, is excessive spending in the name of customs, along with the wastage of time and money.
In particular, he pointed to overspending in the name of religion and festivals as a major cause.
Lack of saving habits, laziness at work, over-eating and drinking, wastage in the name of religion, and excessive spending on clothes are also pushing society towards decline, he added.
Such practices, he said, harm our indigenous culture, customs and future generations.
In such a difficult situation, EYOL appealed to stop excessive spending in the name of customs, perform only essential religious rites and avoid wasting money and valuable time.
It appealed to use locally available products as far as possible this Ningol Chakkouba and to avoid extravagance and show-off in giving gifts.
EYOL also wished that this Ningol Chakkouba brings peace, love and unity to society.
